Last year MVM expanded its Government Support Services division by acquiring SOL Translation Services. Today, that acquisition has proved a huge success. Over the past 11 months MVM Language Services has won several lucrative contracts, bringing in work from such diverse Federal agencies as the Drug Enforcement Administration and the US Department of Agriculture. Our position in the language services market looks strong and poised for growth. MVM partnered with SOL in March 2005. The partnership immediately proved to be a mutually |

This contract was up and running on May 2005. Approximately 96 MVM translators assist DEA agents with long-term investigations and other DEA collateral tasks onsite in Houston, San Antonio, McAllen, Laredo, and other sites throughout Texas. The workload is often heavy as new investigations are opened. MVM currently runs two shifts seven days a week, 365 days a year from 7 am to midnight, in order to cover the case loads.
MVM has won many accolades from DEA agents connected to the DEA Houston contract. As Program Manager Pia Kimble says, "I believe our success is attributed to our ability to successfully balance the needs of our customer, employees and company." MVM hires proven and experienced translators, who then undergo exhaustive training, to ensure that our translated documents are highly accurate and complete. Another key to our high performance levels is Ms. Kimble’s responsiveness to DEA requests, and her ability to quickly adjust her workforce to meet these new demands.
In addition to Ms. Kimble’s thirteen years of experience in the field and effective management of her linguists, there are other important elements contributing to the success of the DEA Houston contract. MVM Language Services corporate team’s first hand experience in the translation field, frequent and open communication, and responsiveness to requests from the field form the base of MVM’s successful language contract execution. Again, Ms. Kimble explains, "the language team at corporate are very quick to respond, even though MVM is a big company. As a Program Manager I call them with any questions or problems, involving anything from personnel to purchase orders, and they will answer me right away. Their open management style is very helpful to me in the field."
The MVM Language Services Department, composed of the original SOL translation management team, has now been fully integrated into the MVM structure. The corporate managers are able to contribute their expertise and experience to the prosperity of the language contracts that fall within this new department. Maria Campos, Director of Language Services, brings to MVM 16 years of translation and management experience in the language services field. She fully understands how Federal language contracts are developed and implemented, and has special expertise with DEA wiretap contracts. As Ms. Campos explains, "my first hand experience in the translation field helps me identify the skills, backgrounds, and qualifications linguists will need in order to generate an accurate and precise translation. I am also able to fully understand the needs of DEA and our other customers, because I’ve been there with them when problems arose and we addressed them together."
MVM’s language services were also expanded last year with the establishment of our in-house Language Service Center. The Center, at our Corporate Headquarters in Vienna, Virginia, is equipped with advanced computer and audio equipment to aid our linguists in their work. MVM invested in the creation of this the Language Service Center because it adds a needed capability to respond quickly to Task Orders and other off-site assignments with on-hand language specialists when our clients call. Currently 24 linguists, with language specialties including Arabic, Farsi, Urdu, Pashto, Punjabi, Dutch, French, Bosnian, and other African dialects, cover two shifts in order to meet the heavy workload demands.
Grace Muia, Ops Coordinator of the Language Service Center, has a bright outlook for the future of the operation, saying "It’s so exciting to have a fully operating Language Center. It’s a place where our linguists can work and collaborate with their peers, and create more accurate and time efficient translations. Now that we have the Center our clients are able to see its usefulness and potential, and are eager to send more work in our direction."
MVM Language Services is positioned to continue its successful path again this year, with several major projects in the works. With our strong management team, Program Managers, and linguists in the field MVM has established a reputation as the go-to company for many language specialties. MVM has also been timely in its investment in the language services field. As occurrences of terrorism, international crime and drug trafficking increase, the need for qualified and skilled linguists is amplified. MVM Language Services will be there to meet that need. |
